Feminine Ways of Knowing
How do we know what we know?
In an interview for For the Wild, Diné elder Pat McCabe shared that, “the intellect is the least reliable way of knowing anything.”
I remember stopping in my tracks to pause the recording and let her words settle inside me.
I knew immediately in my bones that she was right. But I still had to sit down and let it sink in. I’m not sure I’d ever heard anyone put it so clearly before.
Our intellect is a gift, to be sure. And it is also limited.
The truth is that there are many ways we come to understand this life we are living.
Yet many of our feminine ways of knowing have been dismissed, denied or suppressed under the paradigm of patriarchy.
As I prepare for my upcoming offering, Rewilding the Feminine Soul, I’d like to explore some of the feminine ways of knowing that we all have access to. Some of the ways we can know not just with our minds, but with all of who we are. Mind, body, spirit, soul.
I’m looking forward to seeing what emerges as I play with this topic.
And I’d love to hear from you, what are some of the ways (beyond the intellect) that you know what you know? Drop me a note!
